Why you need a Business account: Instagram requires a Business or Creator account to allow third-party apps like EsyPet to post on your behalf. Switching is completely free, takes about 2 minutes, and you will not lose any posts, followers, or content.
Before You Start
You will need:
- The Instagram app on your phone (iPhone or Android)
- A Facebook Page for your salon (if you do not have one, create one here — it takes 5 minutes and is free)
- About 2 minutes
If you do not have a Facebook Page yet, create one before following the steps below. Instagram Business accounts work best when linked to a Facebook Page.
Steps for iPhone
Open Instagram and go to your profile
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Open Settings
Tap the three horizontal lines in the top right corner, then tap Settings and Privacy at the bottom of the menu.
Go to Account type
Scroll down and tap Account type and tools, then tap Switch to Professional Account.
Choose Business
Instagram will show you two options: Creator and Business. Tap Business and then tap Next.
Select a category
Choose a category that best describes your salon. Good options include Pet Groomer, Pet Store, or Local Business. Tap Done when finished.
Connect your Facebook Page (recommended)
Instagram will ask if you want to connect a Facebook Page. Tap Continue and select your salon’s Facebook Page. If you skip this step, go back and do it later — it is required for EsyPet to post to Instagram on your behalf.
You’re done!
Your account is now a Business account. Go back to your EsyPet dashboard and tap Try Again to complete the Instagram connection.
Steps for Android
Open Instagram and go to your profile
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
Open the menu
Tap the three horizontal lines in the top right, then tap Settings.
Find Account settings
Tap Account, then scroll down and tap Switch to Professional Account.
Choose Business
Tap Business then tap Next.
Select your category
Choose Pet Groomer, Pet Store, or Local Business. Tap Done.
Connect your Facebook Page
Follow the prompts to connect your salon’s Facebook Page. This step is required for EsyPet to post automatically.
You’re done!
Return to your EsyPet dashboard and tap Try Again to complete the Instagram connection.
Common Questions
Will I lose my followers or posts?
No. Switching to a Business account does not delete or change any of your existing content, followers, or account history. Everything stays exactly as it is.
Is it free?
Yes. Switching to a Business account is completely free. Instagram does not charge anything for this.
Can I switch back to a Personal account later?
Yes. You can switch back at any time from the same Settings menu. However, switching back will disconnect EsyPet from your account.
I don’t have a Facebook Page for my salon. Do I need one?
Yes — Instagram’s API requires a linked Facebook Business Page to allow third-party apps to post. Creating a Facebook Page is free and takes about 5 minutes. Click here to create your Facebook Page, then come back and follow the steps above.
What exactly can EsyPet do with my Instagram account?
EsyPet can only create and publish posts on your behalf. We cannot read your messages, see your followers’ personal information, change your password, or delete your account. You can revoke EsyPet’s access at any time from your Facebook Settings under Apps and Websites.
I followed all the steps but EsyPet still says my account is Personal. What do I do?
Sometimes Instagram takes a few minutes to update the account type. Try logging out of Instagram and logging back in, then return to your EsyPet dashboard and tap Try Again. If the problem continues, contact us at support@esypet.com and we will help you get connected.
What Happens After You Connect
Once your Instagram Business account is connected to EsyPet, here is what you can expect:
- EsyPet will automatically post grooming content to your Instagram on a regular schedule
- When your staff approves a before and after photo in the EsyPet app, it will be automatically cleaned up and posted with a caption written by AI
- You can review all scheduled and published posts from your EsyPet Marketing dashboard
- You stay in full control — you can pause posting, edit captions, or disconnect at any time
